Renewing the core platform of a leasing company
Industry: Leasing
Role: Software Architect
Topics
A leasing company is modernising its entire value chain – from market access through the central back-office and financial accounting systems to reporting. The existing legacy application, built on Oracle DB, PL/SQL, and Oracle Forms with a calculation engine written in C, is being replaced step by step with a new platform. The goal is greater efficiency from both a business and a technical perspective, with as little risk as possible and under ambitious time constraints.
The platform runs on the AWS cloud, and its infrastructure is provisioned as code. The application consists of containerised components and combines relational data storage with search technology. The highly complex business domain is modelled with Domain-Driven Design and implemented in a hexagonal architecture with Spring-based Java services; the strongly UI-driven frontend is built with Angular. The platform includes integration with financial accounting and a refinancing system, connections to credit agencies, document management, and a new data warehouse.
As one of two software architects, I support several development teams. In the current phase, my focus is on evolving the core architecture, on robust integrations, and on end-to-end business processes.
Responsibilities
- Architectural design and guidance of the platform renewal
- Translating requirements into a strategic implementation plan
- Reducing risk while gradually replacing the legacy application
- Modelling the business domain with Domain-Driven Design
- Designing integrations and optimising end-to-end business processes
- Owning and evolving the software development process
